Biathlon Event with Laser Rifles Permitted for Tie City Recreation Site

Public Service Announcement

NEWS RELEASE - December 8, 2016

Forest users who visit the Tie City Recreation Site on the Medicine Bow National Forest this coming weekend should be aware that a biathlon event will be held Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10-11.

Biathlon combines the sports of Nordic skiing and rifle marksmanship into one scored event.

This particular event will utilize guns with laser systems and no live ammunition. Casper Mountain Biathlon Club (CMBC) is hosting the clinic and was issued a special-use permit by the U.S. Forest Service for a one-time event.

The event will take place in the Campground Loop and signs will be posted to inform the public that an event is occurring.

According to their web site, CMBC is offering an introductory clinic for cross country skiing and biathlon rifle marksmanship. The club will use electronic, infrared rifles to safely introduce biathlon shooting fundamentals.

For questions on the Forest Service permitting process, please contact Nick Collard with the Laramie Ranger District, (307) 745-2317.
