Updated 9/23/2016

Partial Fire Restrictions Lifted on 9/23/2016.

Due to moderated fire weather conditions, the partial fire restrictions that were in effect throughout Albany County have been lifted.

While the danger of accidental wildfire has diminished, it remains important to handle fire cautiously.  The risk of a fire escaping through carelessness will remain and there will be occasional days on which this risk will be high.  Please avoid unnecessary fires on hot, dry, and windy days, especially while red flag warnings are posted by the National Weather Service.  As always, make sure campfires are cold before leaving them, using a shovel and water as required.

For additional information contact the Albany County Fire Warden at 307-760-3641.

Hazard Mitigation Survey

Albany County, along with the incorporated jurisdictions of Laramie and Rock River, are currently engaged in a planning process to update the local hazard mitigation plan. This plan is part of a federal requirement to identify risks and become less vulnerable to natural disasters. Your participation in this brief, 10 minute online survey is very important to ensure your voice is heard. We invite all residents to participate in the planning process by taking this on online survey.

This questionnaire provides an opportunity for you to share your opinions and participate in the mitigation planning process.  The information you provide will help us better understand your hazard concerns and can lead to mitigation activities that should help lessen the impact of future hazard events.  This survey is anonymous and open to the public. Should you have any questions, please contact Caroline Cunningham (Louis Berger), the planning consultant on the project. She can be reached at (919)-866-4413.

Emergency Siren Test

On Friday, March 21st at 10:00 AM, the Emergency Management System will be conducting a 30 second test of the Emergency Sirens. The sirens are located in 8 areas around the county and all will be simultaneously tested. This is a test only. Please do not call 911.  If this was a real emergency, the sirens would last for 180 seconds and further information would be available through radio announcements. This will only test connections and a short wail sound will be heard. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
