Beaver Creek Fire August 31, 2016 Update

Public Service Announcement

News Release - (August 31, 2016)

Beaver Creek Fire

Fire activity on the northwest portion of the Beaver Creek Fire also increased with Tuesday’s sun and wind. Helicopters conducted water drops near the 408 Road to minimize any additional growth to the north. The fire continues to move slightly into the wilderness area on the west and southwest portion of the fire. Firefighters are monitoring that fire activity, but are focusing their efforts where they can have a higher probability of success.

On the eastern side of the fire, firefighters continue to patrol the area for signs of fire activity and smoke. Helicopters conducting water drops were used Tuesday to cool hot spots and minimize fire growth. Helicopters will continue to conduct water drops on Wednesday to hold and maintain the fire while crews will continue to assess any structure protection needs. The suppression repair task force, which has been working in this area, will remain engaged in reducing the impacts from the initial fire suppression activities until that work meets agency standards.

Beaver Creek Fire August 30, 2016 Update

Public Service Announcement

News Release - (August 30, 2016)

A Change in Wind Direction

A change in wind direction Monday caused the Beaver Creek Fire to burn back on itself in several locations. Clouds over the fire limited fire activity, but wind gusts caused isolated torching and visible drifting smoke. Winds are expected to decrease Tuesday, but will continue to come from the east. Cooler temperatures and stronger winds are expected at the end of the week; lasting through the weekend.

Progress Continues in Suppression Repair

The suppression repair task force continued to rehabilitate the landscape on portions of the Beaver Creek Fire Monday. Their focus is to ensure that the work meets agency standards and brings the land as close to “normal” as possible. Bulldozers, excavators, and hand crews are working together to accomplish this effort. The task force will continue to focus their efforts where they can be successful, and avoid areas that still have the potential for fire activity.

Beaver Creek Fire August 29, 2016 Update

Public Service Announcement

News Release - (August 29, 2016)

Patience Pays Off

Warmer weather and shifting winds in the afternoon increased burn activity and smoke at the Beaver Creek Fire Sunday, but firefighter’s patience and planning paid off. Areas to the southeast of the fire began moving out of the Aspens into the sage where firefighters have been monitoring and waiting for the fire to emerge where they can safely engage it. Active burning remained in the interior of the fire. Careful and deliberate burnout operations along the NE and NW corners were successful. Monday’s east wind, however, will be a true test of the strength of the containment lines along the 498 and 408 roads.

Suppression Repair Task Force Making Excellent Progress

Suppression repair has progressed at a steady pace on the Beaver Creek Fire. A task force made up of bulldozers, excavators and hand crews are working hard in damaged areas with the intent of returning the landscape and roads to a state as near pre-fire as possible. The task force formed for this work will continue to push forward.
