La Bonte Canyon Road to Temporarily Close for Culvert Installation

Annual Prescribed Burning to Begin on Pole Mountain

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT - May 5, 2017

 

Laramie Ranger District fire crews hope to take advantage of favorable fuel and weather conditions next week in order to begin conducting prescribed burns in the northern portion of the Pole Mountain unit.

The burning will continue to take place as conditions allow over the next few weeks and/or months.

Smoke from the burns will likely be visible to the public from Happy Jack Highway (Wyo Highway 210) and nearby Forest Roads once they open for the season. The burn units are near Eagle Rock, just north of Forest Road 714.

Thunder Basin National Grassland Public Workshop Set for April 12 in Newcastle, Second Cooperative Working Group Meeting is April 13 

Public Service Announcement(DOUGLAS, Wyo.)  April 5, 2017

The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) will host two collaborative meetings next week in Newcastle, Wyo. The first will be a public learning workshop on Wed., April 12, from 1-4 p.m. at the Weston County Senior Center. Second will be a cooperative working group meeting on Thurs., April 13, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., also at the Weston County Senior Center.

Both events will primarily focus on prairie dog colony management on the Thunder Basin National Grassland (TBNG), and both will be facilitated by the University of Wyoming Ruckelshaus Institute of Environment and Natural Resources. Both are open to the public, however, only government representatives may participate in the working group on Thursday, as is detailed below.

Biathlon Event with Laser Rifles Permitted for Tie City Recreation Site

Forest users who visit the Tie City Recreation Site on the Medicine Bow National Forest this coming weekend should be aware that a biathlon event will be held Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10-11.

Biathlon combines the sports of Nordic skiing and rifle marksmanship into one scored event.

Pile Burning to Begin Soon on Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests

News Release - (November 10, 2016)

 

(LARAMIE, Wyo.)  Nov. 10, 2016 – Despite a warm, dry fall across the Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests in Colorado and Wyoming, shorter days and imminent winter weather are prompting fire personnel to begin preparation for slash pile burning.

Hundreds of piles are estimated to remain on the two National Forests, even after many years of this type of work. Forest users and the public should be aware of and expect to see smoke, as many piles will be burned near communities, travel routes, and popular recreation areas. The burning of highly visible piles will be advertised closer to the date of ignition and questions should be directed to your local Ranger District Office.

Citations Issued for Illegal Off-Highway Vehicle Use on Medicine Bow National Forest

NEWS RELEASE - (LARAMIE, Wyo.)  Oct. 27, 2016

 

Multiple incidents of illegal Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) use on the Medicine Bow National Forest have resulted in citations being issued by U.S Forest Service Law Enforcement.

On Oct. 16, a Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) worked cooperatively with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to locate a group of hunters who drove OHVs to the top of Pennock Mountain to retrieve an elk. There are no legal roads in this area. All OHV operators were issued citations.
