Public Service Announcement

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT - (July 23, 2015)

The City of Laramie and Albany County Emergency Management Agency would like to update the citizens of Albany County to the status of the Cable Interrupt during an emergency.

The Cable Interrupt on local cable channels that is provided by Charter has not been working properly since June 2015. The situation was brought to the attention of the City of Laramie and the Office of Emergency Management after the Tornado Watch that was sent out during that time frame. Citizens noticed that their cable programing was actually interrupted with a screen but no information to the reason was clearly displayed and the voice that usually would accompany the interruption was not there.

Gonorrhea Outbreak Detected in Wyoming

Public Service Announcement

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT - (July 10, 2015)

The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) has detected an alarming increase in reported gonorrhea cases across Wyoming this year.

“So far this year, 61 cases of gonorrhea have been reported to us in comparison to 31 infections by this time last year,” said Courtney Smith, Communicable Disease Surveillance Program manager with WDH. “This increased number of cases is large enough for us to describe the situation as an outbreak.”

Gonorrhea is transmitted through unprotected sexual activity. If left untreated, gonorrhea can cause serious complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease in women and infertility in men and women.

“The two-fold increase in gonorrhea infections is definitely a concern and it is essential for anyone at risk get tested and properly treated,” Smith said. “We’re seeing individuals with ages between 20 and 29 account for almost half of the infections.”
