County test of the Emergency Outdoor Warning Siren System

 The Albany County Emergency Management Agency is CANCELLING testing of the Outdoor Warning Siren system scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday July 4th, 2014 for all Albany County Sirens located in Laramie, Rock River, Centennial and Albany.

During an actual emergency, when residents hear the sirens they should take cover immediately and tune into a local radio or television station to receive additional emergency information.

Portions of 512 and 543 Roads Closed on Laramie Ranger District

-(LARAMIE, Wyo.) June 24, 2014 – Two forest management projects for hazard tree removal will begin this week and will result in temporary road closures on the Laramie Ranger District (LRD) of the Medicine Bow National Forest.

The first closure is on Forest Road 512, from the 511/512 Junction (Four Corners) approximately eight miles west towards the North Platte River. Access to Pickaroon and Pike-Pole dispersed camping areas will be affected, as well as the Douglas Creek and Platte River Trails. The contractor plans on starting cutting in units closest to the river and working their way east.

The closure is from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with no operations on holidays or weekends. Alternate access to the Platte River Wilderness and the North Platte River can be found via the Pelton Creek Trailhead and Six Mile Gap Trailhead.

-Wednesday morning (June 11th) at about 8:45 a.m., the Albany County Sheriff's Office and the Laramie Fire department was notified of an adult male that was critically injured approximately 1/2 mile north of the Laramie City limits on the Railroad tracks.

Initial investigation by Deputies has indicated that the man was either struck or somehow fallen under the wheels of the train causing extensive injury. Only moments later Laramie Fire Department EMT's arrived and provided immediate emergency care and quickly began transport to Ivinson Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Heavy Run-Off Prompts Words of Caution from U.S. Forest Service

T(LARAMIE, Wyo.) June 5, 2014 – As the snowpack rapidly melts and National Forest roads open, the possibility for visitors encountering road damage caused by winter run-off is becoming more likely.

U.S. Forest Service crews are finding damage in a variety of areas and are addressing issues as soon as possible, either fixing the problem or temporarily closing the area until repairs can be made.

The Albany County Emergency Management Agency will be testing the Outdoor Warning Siren system promptly at 10:00 a.m. Friday June 6, 2014 for all Albany County Sirens located in Laramie, Rock River, Centennial and Albany. The warning system will sound a steady signal for a period of 1 to 3 minutes.
