Pole Mountain Recreation Sites and Roads Open for Season

Public Service Announcement

(LARAMIE, Wyo.)  May 11, 2017

Campgrounds, day-use sites, and roads within the Pole Mountain unit of the Medicine Bow National Forest have all been opened for the season during the last week.

Tie City, Vedauwoo, and Yellow Pine campgrounds are all open for public use, as well as the Vedauwoo Day-Use Area. Campgrounds are first-come, first-serve, and some services, such as water at all three campgrounds, may be temporarily unavailable to begin the season.

Roads on the 55,000-acre section of National Forest between Laramie and Cheyenne had been temporarily closed for the last couple months, but are now fully open.

Annual Prescribed Burning to Begin on Pole Mountain

Public Service Announcement

Laramie Ranger District fire crews hope to take advantage of favorable fuel and weather conditions next week in order to begin conducting prescribed burns in the northern portion of the Pole Mountain unit.

The burning will continue to take place as conditions allow over the next few weeks and/or months.

Smoke from the burns will likely be visible to the public from Happy Jack Highway (Wyo Highway 210) and nearby Forest Roads once they open for the season. The burn units are near Eagle Rock, just north of Forest Road 714.
