Annual Pole Mountain Shooting Restrictions Begin March 31

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT - (March 30, 2017)

(LARAMIE, Wyo.)  March 30, 2017 – The Laramie Ranger District would like to remind the public that annual shooting restrictions on Pole Mountain will take effect on Friday, March 31.  These restrictions, which are authorized by Forest Service special order, prohibit the discharge of firearms within the Pole Mountain unit of the Medicine Bow National Forest from March 31 through Sept. 10.

Hunters who possess a valid Wyoming hunting license and are in pursuit of the species for which their license is valid are exempted.  This includes spring turkey hunters.

County test of the Emergency Outdoor Warning Siren System, IPAWS System and CodeRed

NEWS RELEASE - (March 27, 2017)

 

The Albany County Emergency Management Agency will be testing the Outdoor Warning Siren system, Code Red and IPAWS System promptly at 10:00 a.m. Friday April 7,2017 for all Albany County Sirens located in Laramie, Rock River, Centennial and Albany. The outdoor warning system will sound a steady signal for a period of 1 to 3 minutes.  The IPAWS test will only go out to the media that have elected to receive EAS Messages.  

The Albany County Outdoor Warning system auditory warns citizens that are outside of an emergency. When residents hear the sirens they should take cover immediately and tune into a local radio or television station to receive additional emergency information.  Residents should not call 911 or local emergency officials for information as this tie’s up telephone lines needed for emergency operations.  The sirens are an all-hazards emergency warning system and are intended to warn residents of any life threatening situation in the area.

Pile Burning Along Wyoming Highway 230 to Occur This Week

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT - (March 20, 2017)

(LARAMIE, Wyo.) – Laramie Ranger District fire crews will take advantage of favorable weather conditions this week to burn multiple large slash piles along Wyoming Highway 230 on the south end of the Snowy Range, Medicine Bow National Forest.

Burning operations could commence as soon as today, Mon., March 20.

The piles are a result of roadside hazard tree removal operations by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and the Wyoming Department of Transportation in southeast Wyoming.

U.S. Forest Service Announces One-Year Suspension of Black-tailed Prairie Dog Shooting Restrictions on Thunder Basin National Grassland

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT - (March 3, 2017)

 

(DOUGLAS, Wyo.)  March 3, 2017 – Forest Supervisor Dennis Jaeger has rescinded the ban on shooting Black-tailed prairie dogs on the Thunder Basin National Grassland for one year, until March 3, 2018.

Due to current, high populations of Black-tailed prairie dogs on the Thunder Basin and new information that the Thunder Basin National Grassland is not currently being considered for Black-footed ferret reintroduction, the shooting ban is being lifted.
