PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT - (March 29, 2016)

 

 USDA Forest Service to Partner with Wyoming State Forestry for

Biomass Conference

(LARAMIE, Wyo.) – A Forest Biomass Conference will take place starting today in Laramie, Wyo., March 29-31 at the University of Wyoming Conference Center. The event is designed to focus on the business, economic, and political challenges to expanding the forest biomass industry in Wyoming.

Wyoming State Forestry, USDA Forest Service (USFS), Society of American Foresters, and the Office of Wyoming Governor Matt Mead are sponsoring the event. The emphasis of the working conference will be to gather meaningful information and develop an action plan, which will help facilitate the expansion of a sustainable forest biomass industry in Wyoming that can provide benefits at the landscape scale.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT - (March 18, 2016)

 

 Recreation Site Analysis Launched by MBRTB

 

(LARAMIE, Wyo.)  – U.S. Forest Service staff with the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland (MBRTB) are undertaking a unit-wide analysis of their developed recreation sites. The internal analysis and subsequent recommendations will result in management direction, changes, and priorities in coming years.

 

The Forest Service hopes to address the following topics with the analysis:

  • Address changing recreation demands
  • Meet current and future public recreation site needs
  • Consider the effect of recreation sites on local economic, environmental, and social situations
  • Manage to agency health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Reduce deferred recreation site maintenance burden
  • Focus limited MBRTB recreation program resources on our highest priority sites and facilities in a cost-effective manner

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT - (March 15, 2016)

 

 District Ranger Extends Comment Period for Proposed Eastern Snowy Range Seasonal Big Game Road Closures

 

(LARAMIE, Wyo.)  – Laramie District Ranger Frank Romero announced today that he is extending the public comment period for a proposal to improve crucial big game habitat along the southeast boundary of the Snowy Range.

The comment period will be extended two weeks until Tues., March 29. The original deadline for comment was today, March 15.

 

“I have heard from multiple people who are interested in this project that they were unaware of the comment period and caught off-guard by the deadline,” said Laramie District Ranger Frank Romero. “I want to receive input from as many affected parties as possible, and so I have decided to extend the comment deadline by two weeks.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT - (March 2, 2016)

 

 Plowing Occurring to Prep for Prescribed Burning on Pole Mountain

 

(LARAMIE, Wyo.)  – Laramie Ranger District fire crews will soon be taking advantage of favorable weather conditions to begin prescribed burning at various locations on the eastern half of the Pole Mountain unit. The burning could begin as early as this week and will continue to take place as conditions allow over the next few months.

                The burn areas will vary in size consisting of anywhere from a couple acres to 100 acres at a time. The work is part of the ongoing Pole Mountain Vegetation Project on the Medicine Bow National Forest in eastern Albany County.

Forest Service staff will need to plow sections of some roads in order to reach the prescribed burn units. The plowing is for administrative use of Forest Service employees during this project. The seasonal closure of all Pole Mountain roads to motorized public use remains in place.
